Major headache
Ordered the sbv3202 to replace my old cable modem that I had been paying rent on. Received the new modem on a Saturday and hooked it up and gave comcast a call and after over an hour on the phone they were unable to turn it on I was told it must be a defective unit, so I had them re activate my original one. Went to the Amazon site to request a replacement and the next day Sunday I had a replacement modem so once again called Comcast and after almost an hour on the phone they where unable to activate this one, the chance of having 2 defective unit’s in a row is slim to none in my mind I think the Comcast personnel don’t know what they are doing, I Have one of there technicians scheduled to come out this week I will do and update once It’s all done. UPDATE: Ok here is the updated report the comcast tech came out and verified I had good signal so I hooked up both Arris modems while he was there, and neither would get and upstream signal he told me there both defective units so he grabbed a new 3.1 docsis modem out of his truck (that I am still renting) and he had no problem turning it on. 2 days later I went to best buy and picked up a new Netgear modem and brought it home and guess what, they were unable to turn it on same issue as before no upstream signal the person on the phone said I had a bad modem. I told them this is 3 modems in a row there is no way, so I had them turn back on the rental modem. At this point I am convinced Comcast does not want you to own your own modem, I am %100 certain there was no problem with any of the 3 modems I had purchased, comcast is playing games and the 1 star rating I am leaving is for Comcast not the modem manufacturers. UPDATE #2: after having nothing but problems with 3 different new modems I ended up buying a used Arris off ebay it's a DOCSIS 3.0 since my service level is 250mbs and the specs on a DOCSIS 3.0 is still good for up to 300mbs I figured that's plenty for my current service level and since I only paid $19 and after 1.5 months of not paying rent for equipment it will have paid for it self. When I first received the used modem I hooked it up and after a few minutes I had both upstream and down stream signals locked. I then logged into the modem and check the firmware and it's last update was 2015 then I called Comcast and had them turn it on, after it was all done and I was online I logged back into the modem and the firmware date now showed 2018, So my thoughts on this is since all 3 of the new modems would see both US and DS until Comcast would start sending data packets to it to activate them and from there it would go south after they all did reboot I would never see any US signal lock again. I am not a tech but my gut feeling is that what ever firmware update there doing to the new 3.1 modems is screwing them up. Maybe later in the year I will revisit getting a new 3.1 modem hopefully by then they will have the firmware bug worked out. UPDATE #3: 1 week on the eBay used Arris $19 docsis 3.0 modem still going strong it's been rock solid with great speeds too 250-275 mbs Just sharing my experience your mileage may vary................:)
