Caution Warranted
I have used this product and personally experienced an apparent boost in overall feelings of energy and well being. It is therefore disappointing to report where my detailed investigation of this drug has led. In learning of the mechanisms of action for the efficacy of this drug, my inquiry leads me to research published in NCBI/PubMed*. In summary, it appears MitoQ while beneficial to certain mitochondria, causes swelling, depolarization and cell death in the renal proximal tubules of the kidney. If this proves correct, then the possible benefit of self-experimentation with this drug may be fatally outweighed by the possible irreversible and/or fatal harm incurred. Although my choice to discontinue usage of MitoQ based upon the safety issues raised is a personal decision, I respectfully suggest that before embarking upon self-medicating with this product that you perform serious due diligence into the possible life-altering side effects. A previous reviewer reported his lab tests after taking MitoQ were indicative of severe kidney damage. This would appear to confirm that this may be a dangerous supplement. I would urge extreme caution and much more evidence of safety before consuming this product. *Gottwald EM, Duss M, Bugarski M, et al.
