Interrupted my Anxiety Medication
I know I am probably the exception here but this probiotic did the worst to me.
About 3 weeks into taking the probiotic, I did notice lots of gas and bloat. I also noticed my head was cloudy and felt groggy, although I didn't think this was a symptom of this supplement, until I read more about how probiotics can be bad for you. Probiotic bacteria have the unique capacity to break down sugar and produce D-lactic acid. “So, if you inadvertently colonize your small bowel with probiotic bacteria, then you have set the stage for potentially developing lactic acidosis and brain fogginess.”
Also, another bizarre thing happened to me as well. I have been on Paxil (Paroxetine) an SSRI for anxiety for about 6 years now. About 4 weeks into taking this probiotic I woke up one more with an anxiety attack. I had bad anxiety for the remainder of the day. next day I wokeup at 6am with anxiety, next day 4am with anxiety. That's when I stopped taking this probiotic. It seems the new bacteria that was growing changed the way my body absorbed my medication, It no longer was working after 6 years. After 3 days of not taking the probiotic, My anxiety was calm however another bizarre thing, I was having side effect from Paxil that I havent had since I first started the medication 6 years ago. So its almost like my body needed to re-learn this drug and how to handle it.
Day 6 of stopping this probiotic, my anxiety is gone and my side effects are almost gone as well.
I know I am a rare case, but I wanted to review to raise awareness for anyone else out there taking medications. This should not be treated as a dietary supplement, and should be treated as a drug. You should consult your doctor before taking this.
Leave a comment if anyone else experienced the brain fogginess or had medications interrupted.
