Design Has Undergone A Recent Change
As a mother of 4, I have been a big fan of these diapers with a Subscribe and Save subscription for almost 4 years now, for my youngest two children. I switched to these from Pampers Swaddlers when they decided to thumb their nose at loyal consumers everywhere and mess up their Swaddlers with the DriMax crap. Like thousands of other mothers that year, I quickly left the Swaddlers behind, searched for a product similar to the original Swaddlers and thankfully, quickly found Huggies Pure & Natural. I LOVED these diapers, starting regular use in 2009 not long after Huggies came out with them. They were soft, cushion-y, absorbent, and fragrance-free/semi natural. I'm not really sure exactly how natural or organic they were but it didn't really matter to me as long as they were fragrance free and didn't give my newborn a rash. She was and still is one of those kids whose bottoms break out easily. Even now, at almost 4 yrs. old and potty trained, she breaks out in a rash from toilet paper. These diapers kept her bottom rash free in addition to being very soft which was important to me as the new Swaddlers had suddenly turned cardboard-feeling and stiff. I used these Huggies P&N up until now.
But last week I received my latest shipment and as soon as I opened the diaper package, a strong chemical plastic smell wafted out.
I pulled one out and sure enough, the diaper looked different. The outside lining is now some sort of weird thin crepe-y plastic material that is very different than the diapers I have been getting and I'm not sure what it is exactly, whether it is this part or another new part of the diaper that smells strongly of plastic but it is definitely some sort of strong chemical smell that I have never smelled before. The absorbency has also been downgraded. Every night starting with the first night that my 10 mo. old has used these diapers with this new design, he has awakened for his 4:30 AM feeding with the diaper completely ballooned up with pee, the outside of the absorbent area damp, and his clothing and bed wet. I change him and his bedding and 4 hours later when we wake up for the day, he is completely soaked through again. During the day when his diaper is only a little wet, it soaks through and the outside of the diaper gets damp. Before this new package we had never had this problem before. In the past we have had issues with pee leaking out the back or sides of these diapers but we changed sizes and the issue went away. These diapers are not leaking out the sides or back but through the outside liner due to this new design change that I suspect is Huggies cutting corners on their materials. I personally would have paid a little more for a quality product though. This will be my last shipment of Huggies Pure & Natural however, as I will be searching for a new diaper immediately and most likely not with Pampers OR Huggies.
