Super scoot, bad biz
So far I’ve had a perfect experience. The scooter arrived after 1 day, despite saying it would take 4 days at least. Assembly is extremely easy; connect the wire from the handlebar to the scooter, pop it on, 4 screws and we’re in business. The scooters light- much lighter (feeling at least) than the Hiboy S2 I’m coming from. The acceleration is very great, even in regular mode it still has some ‘get up and go’ to it. I’ve only taken it on one ride so far. It was 2.5 miles of hills and rough rodes through Brooklyn streets- handled it like a champ. I had it in sport mode, and the entire way was uphill, yet I had a little over 11 miles of range left at the end of it (according to the app at least). I was getting 16-17 mph the entire time. I’m 6’3” 165 lbs so I’m tall and skinny but this thing fits me perfectly.
Initial impressions: seems like a great scooter. It feels much more expensive than it is.
My only gripe is that it states in the description that it has “customizable ambient lighting”.... it doesn’t. There’s no lights to be found anywhere other than the headlight and brake light. Kind of a bummer since the S2 had red under glow that really made you easy to spot at night. The headlight and taillight are pretty bright though, so it wasn’t a huge deal for me.
The app is crap, and the instructions were as useful as hot sauce lubricant.
I’ll update this review immediately if I have any issues. The 1 year warranty was a big selling point for me, electric scooters aren’t exactly known for their quality control. Segway isn’t known for having the best customer support so we’ll see 🤷🏻
//// I PAID FOR THIS WITH MY OWN MONEY, I WAS NOT SPONSORED IN ANY WAY UNLIKE A LOT OF OTHER REVIEWERS HERE /////
***** UPDATE 12/5
A few days in and its still going well. This thing SCOOTS. Finding all of the features of this scooter was borderline impossible without any decent instructions, but here's what I've learned so far:
RIDING MODES:
limited mode (no S on screen): the slowest mode available with best range, limits speed to a max of 9.8 mph (you can set it lower in the app if you want), acceleration limited.
Standard mode (white S on screen): limits speed to anywhere from 14-15 mph, acceleration fairly good, a nice balance of speed and power
Sport mode (red S on screen): "FULL SCOOT AHEAD CAPTAIN" maximum speed an acceleration with the least amount on range.
CONTROLS
To change between modes, click the power button 2 times
To turn on the light, once
To turn it off, hold it down for a few seconds
APP
**necessary for full speed and controls on the scooter**
you can adjust cruise control, speed settings, how strong the slow down is when coasting (supposedly has regenerative braking? I can't remember reading that anywhere), and you can lock and unlock the scooter. It’s not user friendly at all, feels like more like an afterthought than anything
To access the tutorial you'll need to watch for full power, open the app, go to vehicle at the bottom, click the settings icon in the top right, click "new rider tutorials", and watch the tutorial. At the end, it will unlock the sport mode
Hopefully this helps someone out there so they don't go through the same trial and error I did. I was tempted to take a star off for the janky a** instruction manual but the scooter really is good for the money.
Feel free to ask me questions below and I'll try my best to answer them!
///UPDATE 2/20////
Can confirm that Segway’s customer service is completely useless. I’ve messaged them multiple times asking questions about the scooter, trying to find out more info about features in their cr(app): have yet to receive a response. It’s been months. I’m slightly upset that they stood me up, but I’ve had tons of training via my dating life.
I cannot recommend this company. I’m one of the lucky ones, it seems, that actually did receive a gen 2. It’s sad too because the scooter itself is one of the most competitive on the market... may god have mercy on your soul if you need any kind of technical support or warranty work
5 star scooter, -1 star company... we’re just going to round to a 2 star
TL;DR:
No
