Amazon needs to stop ignoring the flawed screens
The product itself deserves 5 stars. The 1 star is for the refurbished ones specifically. I like every bit of the Kindle Oasis except the price, so when the refurbished ones came out on sale, I did not hesitate to put in my order, only to be met with disappointments. All of them have screen issues. As you can see in the photos, the screens on all four readers I experienced were all so very grainy that I could actually vividly capture it on camera. The background noise isn’t due to my camera resolution but faithfully represents how bad the screens are. The graininess was also permanent, not something that could be solved by reboot/reset. All of the ones I switched had the same issue leading me to believe that they only send out these bad ones people might have returned. These should not have passed quality control to be resold in any ways, unless clearly stated in the description admitting the problem. Okay, here’s the whole story. I bought a used Kindle Oasis I (not this generation, but I’m getting there) from Amazon Warehouse. The description only states minor cosmetic problems which I didn’t care, but the first one I received had a huge dark spot on the right side of the screen (not the light cones - I’m not one of those people with very sensitive eyes who are bothered by those light shadows, all right? ). So I returned it without hesitation and bought a second one. The second Kindle Oasis I did not have blotchy screen, but the screen was not unlike in the photos I posted. So I supposed it was an issue with Amazon Warehouse items and returned it to buy a refurbished Kindle Oasis II that was sold directly by Amazon, not its Warehouse, and promised to “look and work like new.” With excitement I opened the package of Kindle Oasis II - claimed to be the most advanced e-ink reader ever, turned on the button and immediately saw the grainy screen. What a bummer! All this trouble for nothing! I chatted with customer service and was told that I could get a replacement. By that point I already lost hope, but it wouldn’t hurt to try. The replacement Kindle Oasis II arrived. This was the most outrageous one so far. Other than the grainy screen, there were many dead pixels! Hands up! Returning again! I’m done with refurbished/used Kindles. Not going to give another try. If any of you out there got one with a good screen, you should know that you’ve won a lottery!! Other than the poor quality control, Amazon customer service should care more. They have been the best CS people ever in terms of attitude, handling return/replacements, etc., but none of it is sincere or effective until you actually try to solve the problem. If a customer has complained about screen issues, maybe just make sure that the next one you send out to him/her isn’t defective again. Even if you happen to consider the grainy screen normal, out of the 4 Kindles I’d received, 50% was defective (dead pixels resulting in permanent light holes or a blotch of permanent dark shadow on the screen). I hope this rate make you stop and make things right.
