This is the 2nd Fry Daddy that I have owned. The first one lasted a number of years and did a great job. So when it started to leak from the bottom of the fryer, it was replaced with a new one. The pictures should demonstrate what happened but essentially, I had a grease splatter screen on top of the fry daddy and when I went to remove it to put the fries in the oil, the plastic lip of the fry daddy had melted! Thinking that it might just be the lip, I added some fries and found out that the plastic lining that holds the oil had actually started to melt and was putting clumps of plastic all over the fries (if you look at the images, that's what the black globs are in between the fries). It may have been an issue that is isolated to the product I received, but it is a little unnerving that a device that is holding boiling oil had started to melt. Thankfully, it did not leak and was able to maintain the oil until it had cooled down. While I was a big Fry Daddy fan, after this issue, we purchased another model that has a steel/ceramic lining.
