We just bought a King-sized bed and needed a mattress pad for it. We didn't need an allergen barrier, or a 100% waterproof cover, or a fully sealed bag-- we just wanted a decent plain cover to have a small basic barrier between our sheets and the mattress. Ordered this cover based on reviews that seemed positive, and before putting it on the bed for the first time I decided to wash it to remove the chemical smell. I washed it in cold water in a front-loader (no agitator) with HE detergent. The washing process completely and utterly dissolved the backing that holds the polyester batting in the cover, completely destroying it and rendering it useless. I had to let it air dry before we shipped it back to Amazon because if cold water did that much damage I can't imagine what a dryer would do to the thing. This is a garbage product and not worth $5, much less the $20 they're charging.
