I ordered a Lifestraw. I was impressed with the warranty. I read alot about the usage and was anxious to get this product. I opened this up and decided to test this with tap water. i got two to three draws of water and the straw plugged. I attempted to blow through it to expel the water and was plugged. I hung the filter and waited and re tried the next day. Still plugged to a vaccuum level. I decided that this cannot be a working product and contacted Vestergaard for return or warranty replacement. after several days i got this email: (Eartheasy is the master wholesale distributor of the LifeStraw, and Vestergaard forwarded your email to us. If you could please try 5 quick strong sucks on the straw, it should allow water to flow through. They have to be quick, one after the other. Alternatively, you can allow the straw to stand upright in water with the caps off and the water will creep up the inside of the straw and it should flow fine then. If it doesn't work for you then, you can take advantage of Amazon's return program and get a new one. Thanks, Ben Seaman) After not receiving a response for several days I had contacted Amazon. They set up the return stating that they could not send a replacement due to the sales agreement with vestergaard and could only refund when the return was received. Cudos for Amazon that they had to deal with warranty work that neither of the other companies were willing to do more than reply to suck it 5 times and if that dont help call the other guy. had I put my trust in this product and needed water I would have been in trouble and Lifestraw or vestergaard were more concerned with passing the buck than to show any real concern with a failed product or standing behind warranties. I will never trust this company's products again. Thank you amazon for showing companies how they should operate. Followup: It has been over a year now..No report on the reason for defect as promised. no contact by the company. did get a firestorm of ridicule and poorly fostered comments. Since then I have purchased a Sawyer water filter. It worked perfectly right out of the box. The accompanied fittings and backwash system was fantastic. The 1 million gallon warranty is impressive and believable. The instructions are great and easy to accomplish. The company didn'd even have to brag about third world usage to sell it's product. I have found that third world abuse to sell products is not quite the type of company I will ever do business with. The filter from The Sawyer company sells itself by word of mouth. In my opinion, you should avoid lifestraw and get your lifechanging water filter from Sawyer.
