Unless you are willing to drill additional water drainage holes (and/or make the existing ones larger) OR keep in a covered area where you control the amount of water it gets at all times, this product is not for you. The "trickle down" concept is virtually non-existent. You will drown the plants at the top and would be lucky if the bottom tray gets any water at all. Therefore each tray needs to be watered separately which is cumbersome. Unfortunately I had my planter with strawberry plants in it outside with my vegetable and herb gardens and it rained pretty heavily one day. I thought that it would drain decently after the rain but it just held all the water and killed most of my strawberry plants. The drainage holes are too small to let much water through and there are not enough holes anyway. The only way I could have saved my plants would be emptying the soggy mess of soil and start over. Sadly I did this too late and lost most of the plants. So now I will drill larger drainage holes and start over and hope for better results.
