Might not be a healthy option for steaming
I noticed that vegetables I steamed weren't the same vibrant color as they are when steaming the traditional way. When pouring out excess water from the steamer reservoir, I saw that it was tinged with gray. Unfortunately this steamer has a black metal heating element that oxidizes. The water sits in contact with the heating element and takes on a gray color, which produces gray steam! Also, the metal element and the gasket surrounding it turn my sponge black each time I clean it after use. I wonder what metal the element is made of and if it is transferring to the steam as well. I didn't feel this was a healthy way to steam my food and stopped using it.
