This is, by all appearances, a substantially built, inexpensive futon frame. With the exception of the wooden slats, the frame is light-weight metal. All of the parts for assembly were present. Delivery was prompt (literally shipped only a few miles from where we live in Long Beach). The packaging was severely damaged, but the product was intact. The major difficulty is that the directions for assembly are not only sparse, but incorrect with respect to the placement of the springs. It took some imaginative experimentation to discover how things really went together. (I have assembled lots of products. This was one of the most difficult and annoying. It certainly hasn't been human factors tested like Ikea.) We have found that because the bottom, rear supports protrude, it cannot be placed flushed to the wall. This means a loss of room space. I'm not sure what the designers had in mind concerning room placement. This product needs to be re-engineered. Update: We have had a chronic problem with the wooden slats breaking, often dangerously. After we broke four slats we contacted the distributor, Visiondecor, who promptly provided us with replacements. They too broke. Now the distributor will not provide replacements. We have re-glued a couple of the broken slats. We also purchased for $6 from a hardware store an 8 foot slat to use as a cross brace. This has solved the breakage problem. In the original design, the slats were placed too far apart, so there was a tendency for weight to be directed on one slat rather than spread over two or three. Again, this is an example of bad engineering. I would not recommend this product unless you put in a cross brace at a 90 degree angle to the slats. This acts as extra support for the slats. I've noticed on the internet many purchasers report slat breakage on this kind of futon. Be advised that this is a potentially dangerous product. I would avoid Visiondecor since they do not stand behind their product. Coaster Bed, the "manufacturer," has not returned our phone calls regarding replacement slats.
