I bought these because they were strongly recommended by a famous quilter. Nice fine line, smooth marking. I marked on a sandwiched quilt on my longarm. When I applied a little water with a q-tip, the marker bled into the batting and backing and reappeared as a large blotch when dried. I had to submerse the quilt and forcefully spray cold water to eliminate the stain. Not every quilt is designed to be submerged. It would probably be fine used prior to sandwiching and cleaned before sandwiching.
