I've had this item for less than a month, and have used it about a dozen times. The first thing I noticed was it often doesn't like to power on. Then after five or six uses, the marking on the power button simply rubbed off, like it was originally drawn on with a permanent marker. Worse though, the metal itself is oxidizing and chipping off. We have only cut meat, cheese, and a few vegetables with this slicer, and use mild soapy water to wash it. I am returning the product for a refund. We did some searching and are purchasing a professional version meat slicer through on online restaurant store. I'll refrain from names or links as the point isn't to get someone to purchase some particular brand or use a particular site. The point is: DO NOT WASTE . YOUR MONEY on this. It simply is poor quality and you are not getting what you pay for.
