Poor Quality Control - Gasket Doesn't Seal and Insulation Void
I purchased this from another authorized vendor and have contacted them about the following concerns. They have forwarded my concerns to Pelican and I am awaiting a response.
Issue 1: Gasket does not seal.
After reading about the drain plug issue that have plagued some purchasers I decided to do an inspection of the cooler. When looking at it from the side I thought I could see into the cooler. I decided to place a light into the cooler and was disappointed to see light bleeding out of the sides. The owner's manual describes a "...thermal-protective layer that's sealed tight with a freezer-grade 360 degree rubber gasket." This does not seem to be the case with my cooler.
Issue 2: Insulation missing on lid.
When placing the light into the cooler it became very apparent that the "...two-inch thick, continuous layer of polyurethane insulation." did not make its way throughout my lid.
Issue 3: Product description says 10 days ice retention while cooler says 7
The product description advertises up to 10 days of ice retention but the cooler has a big sticker on the side that states 7 days, and none of the other documentation that came with the cooler mentions 10 days (unless I am missing something).
I had heard good things about Pelican from folks in media and read so many good reviews that this has left me pretty disappointed. Even looking at the lid without light you can tell there is something off with the section that is missing insulation. I would expect a company with Pelican's reputation to have better quality control standards, especially when a customer has to wait several weeks for product.
