Impossible to install correctly with lap/shoulder belt
Honestly I think Britax should remove this seat from the market, and I'll explain why. First, I've been loyal to Britax. I've had 7 of their seats, all convertible and booster seats. Every one I had I would give 5 star reviews, and I never bat an eye at the price, especially since one of my kids came through an accident unscathed while in his Boulevard. I've also taken a class to install seats, and consider myself an expert. When I buy a seat I read the whole manual, and study every part of the seat. I chose the Pioneer over the Frontier since I thought I didn't need the clicktight feature. I'm a big guy and never had a problem getting a seat to install correctly. After an hour trying to install this seat with a lap-shoulder belt in our 2014 Honda Odyssey, I gave up and shipped it back. It is simply impossible to get a good install with a lap/shoulder belt, as there are no lock offs like in other Britax seats, and the design of the belt path causes the belt to buckle and wrinkle while installing. Even with a friend pushing the seat down, and me yanking on the belt as hard as I could, I could still get the seat to slide as much as 12". And yes, I did have the seat belt locked. So you might be thinking "Why not just use LATCH?". Well one thing that is never advertised (and should be required BY LAW to be clearly disclosed in the store displays) is that LATCH can only be used with this seat if your child is UNDER 45 pounds. Yes the seat is good up to 70 pounds in harness mode, but only with your car's seat belt. My concern is that many people giving this seat 5 stars have installed it with LATCH and don't know about the weight limit, but it is stated in the manual. I confirmed I could get a good install with LATCH, but my son is 45 pounds, so I have to install it with the lap shoulder belt. The only reason I rated it two stars instead of one, is that if you have an older car with a lap only belt then you should be able to get a good install and use the seat as intended. Aside from the install issue, everything about this seat is great. So even if your child is small enough for LATCH, make sure you try to install it with the vehicle seat belt as well, because if you can't get a good install you'll be buying another seat once he/she hits 45 pounds. I returned the seat and replaced it with the Frontier with clicktight, which I was able to install in literally 30 seconds with the belt, and the installation is rock solid. It requires literally no effort to get a good install. Yeah it's a bit more costly, but well worth it, as in my opinion the real weight limit of the Pioneer is 45 pounds, unless you're using a lap only belt. Perhaps there are other vehicles where the Pioneer might work, but I would be surprised.
