Tempted to say this is counterfeit...or the quality is very different from the "Percy" bottle in stores at the same price
I'm writing this review to help others who don't own one of these Ello Percy Glass Bottles purchased at a retail store. I got mine at Target. Same exact price...$14.99. I've had my bottle, in grey, for a few weeks. I love it. It doesn't leak even when you shake a full bottle upside down. The silicone grip is tight. The cap silicone never moves away from the top. It's made me drink a lot more water because of its convenience and quality. Having said all this, my wife told me she wanted one last week. I knew she wanted pink and Target only carried the grey color. I also knew Amazon carried the same bottle, so I placed my order to arrive on Mother's Day. We just opened the box tonight and her first words were "this has to be plastic." I held and inspected the bottle myself. Keep in mind, I've probably held my bottle for an hour a day for two weeks straight. It's like an extension of my hand at this point. I immediately noticed every single difference. A lot of the differences can be seen in my pictures, but I'll put it in bullet points below for easier reading: -Thinner Glass. The pink bottle almost feels plastic. I weighed each bottle when empty. I had to pour out my grey bottle and wipe it out as much as I could. The few water drops and condensation make no difference in the weight comparison picture. The grey bottle weighs 1 pound!!!! The pink bottle from Amazon weighs 6.6 oz less...9.4 total. That's a HUGE difference and you can feel it. Thinner glass means it's going to break easier if you drop it. My grey bottle is like a tank. You can put your eye up to it and nothing is clear on the other side because of the thickness. I can see clearly through the pink bottle because it's so thin. -Amazon bottle leaks water droplets. My grey bottle won't leak no matter how long it's upside down or turned over. I can shake it as hard as possible and no spills. I tried the same with the Amazon pink bottle and small drops came out every few seconds. It's because of the quality and design of the silicone top insert. Check out the pictures. Which one looks cheap? The pink bottle insert pulls away from the plastic top every time you take it out of the bottle. The grey one never does this. You can see an example in the pics of that as well. It also happens with the loose silicone grip in the middle. Look at how loose it is around the bottle. I can't even get my fingertip in the grey bottle because it is so tight. So the question I'm having a hard time answering is...what happened? Does Ello produce a much lower quality "Percy" bottle for online retailers to sell through sites like Amazon? Or are the bottles being shipped by Amazon (through a third party seller) counterfeit? A counterfeit water bottle seems ridiculous, but nothing surprises me these days. Amazon informed me the seller is Leapfrog. I plan on calling Ello tomorrow morning and I'll update my review with their response. I've already scheduled a return of the pink bottle. My surest option is to go back to Target and get another one of the high quality bottles. While the bottle isn't completely useless, there is almost no reason to accept a lesser quality version for the same price. I'm sure other retailers carry the better bottle as well. The problem is that Amazon customers who are leaving positive reviews don't realize the other option exists, but it's not their fault. If I can help anyone with my review and pictures, the whole ordeal will be worth it. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help.
