Seriously, you need a smartphone to setup and use a land line device?
I really wanted to like this device. I purchased it, along with an Echo, to be used for hands free dialing for my parents. My mother is nearly blind and has trouble using a regular phone and I thought this would be a good solution. I was extremely disappointed to receive the device and realize that you need to have a mobile phone (not just a device which can run the Alexa App) to really make use of the unit. My parents have a land line, they have internet, they have a computer, they have an iPad, but they don't have a smartphone because they wouldn't make use of it. The Alexa App runs on an iPad, so I don't understand why the Echo Connect can't use contacts set up on that device. More generally, it seems that you should be able to enter contacts directly into any Alexa app, whether running on a mobile phone, iPad, Fire, web browser, etc. I thin Amazon really dropped the ball on this one. I will be happy to amend my review if Amazon does the right thing and fixes this device so that it doesn't require a smartphone to fully take advantage of a unit that was advertised to work with a land line.
