Dead in 30 days
Just bought this Hamilton Beach food processor back on Sept 5, 2013. It died exactly one month later on Oct 5, 2013. During that time I used it half a dozen times or so to shred beets, process cauliflower into 'rice', and to make a few large batches of chocolate mousse (omnomnomnom!). Nothing 'strenuous'. Every time I used it, it smelled like smoke; but according to the manual this was normal and would eventually stop. Instead it continued to get worse with each use. During the last use the smell got pretty funky so I turned it off for a few minutes; but when I tried turning it back on... nada! Toast! Dead! Expired! Pushing up daisies! Given up the ghost! The hardest task I gave it was to leave it on for 5-8 minutes or so to make the chocolate mousse nice and smooth. Hardly what I would call 'abusive', but obviously this defective/pansy (you choose) device couldn't handle it! My last processor (NOT a Hamilton Beach) lasted for 25+ years and managed much tougher tasks than these on an almost daily basis. No smoke, no complaints, no defects... Sadly it's no longer available. *le sigh*... they just don't make them like they used to...
