Amazon sells this stand as a package with the Bowflex SelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbells, and I cannot fathom why anyone at Bowflex or Amazon felt this was a good idea. The stand itself is decent and sturdy, and looks good. Perhaps when using with the 560 weights, it works great. However despite the compatibility list on both the instructions and in the amazon description, not to mention the comparison chart against the non-media stand model... this stand’s dumbbell base platforms do not work with the 552 dumbbell bases. The screw holes do not match up anywhere, so the bases and weights are basically just sitting on top of the platforms with not one screw to keep them in place. Bowflex has literally included retaining straps in the box so they can consider the stand “compatible.” Straps. To hold over 105 lbs of weight in place, on plastic bases that are just resting on the surface of the smaller metal platforms under them. It’s nothing short of moronic, and most definitely not what we expected of a brand like Bowflex. We have a MaxTrainer and the quality of that machine is excellent. We thought these dumbbells and the stand would be of good quality as well. The weights are great, the stand seems like a stretch to offer a compatible item to far too many models of their dumbbells. And this strap, even while tightened with as much tension as possible, does NOT keep the dumbbell in place while on the base. You need to remove the dumbbell with two hands while using your knee or something to stabilize the dumbbell base in order to keep it from sliding forward or backward off the platform. This is pathetic for a $135-150 stand that was supposedly packaged and sold with the dumbbells as compatible. It is anything but. This is a hack solution for someone trying to use a stand that was purchased a decade ago and then used for a newer, different brand and maker of dumbbells. The fact that they are advertising and selling this stand as a package with the 552 dumbbells is absurd. I can’t speak to how it works with the 560s but I am sure it’s no good with the 552s and I’d be willing to bet it’s no good with the 1090s either.
