WARNING: Does not power more than 33 watts at a time.
So the model I purchased and I am reviewing is the 8-PORT GS108PP 8x PoE @ 123W gigabit switch. I purchased this switch hoping for an affordable solution to power my 5 Ubiquiti UniFi HD In wall access points. Per the spec sheet on those devices the power draw on each is 11w (23 if you are passing through to another PoE device but I am not). This is a total of 55w drawn by the switch and it has an advertised rating of 123W. This is not the case. If I connect more than three 11 watt devices to the switch any device over port 3 will shut down after a while of use because of lack of power. Please note this is DAMAGING to your equipment. The rated wattage on this switch is not accurate. Additionally, the switch reduces the wattage delivered to additional equipment by port number so the most power is provided on port 1 and the least power is provided on port 8. So it totally makes sense that ports 1-3 worked fine but it would start getting flakey results once ports 4 and 5 were used. If you have more than 33W of load I would strongly suggest buying another device. This switch was marketed well and in my opinion is falsely advertising the wattage capacity. I did read other reviewer on here complain about similar issues. The switch clearly is not handling the capacity that netgear is claiming and I find that concerning. I will be returning this device and paying the extra $70 to buy another device that is better suited. Not revealing the one I am buying because I do not want this to sound like a sales diversion. Take it as a hard warning.
