why did I bother? Just not good.
What is with all the glowing reviews? Did we read the same book? I found this book amateurish, flat, dull, and insipid. The writing is pedestrian, about sixth grade level. There was nothing to discover, nothing fresh and new. The dialogue is uninspired, in fact, the whole thing is uninspiring. The chapter headings are cringey. The characters are unlikable. Detestable, actually. No one would want this group to vacation together in the same house. They are just awful people, that you wouldn’t want to know. The characters make stupid choices that no one in real life would make. (Seriously, who jumps off the front of a moving boat?) the way they act when things go wrong is not human nature. The way they act when things go well is just boring. I think you are supposed to feel something for some of these people, but it wasn’t there. It’s just a miserable cast of characters you feel nothing but contempt for. The ending is far fetched and hard to swallow. There are no motivations presented here, just nonsense that come from nowhere and makes no sense. In spite of the last few pages trying to give some characters redeeming qualities, it just doesn’t work. I know somebody spent a lot of time on this, but why? I deleted this book from my kindle and regret the time wasted on it.
I read reviews to find out whether something is worth parting with hard earned cash. I hate paying good money for a book based on back-scratching or dishonest reviews, and finding out I bought something worthless. I do know that authoring a book takes incredible effort. I know how hard it is. But that doesn’t excuse a poor product. I hate to be harsh, but I believe in telling the truth, even when it’s unpleasant. I hope that helps someone else.
