This was purchased to contain a 4 pound shih tzu puppy. I put it on hard wood flooring in my den. It has a good design, but it's a bit flimsy. It's very hard to open and close the door because the whole pen moves with it. It's very hard to line the closure bars through the holes because it's so flimsy. They don't really line up, so you have to lift and wiggle the whole thing. I would not recommend the 36 inch. It's way too high. It would not hold a large breed puppy. It would fall over easily. One paw up on the sides and down it would go. Or they would move it all over the house. I gave mine away, I didn't feel like boxing it up and sending it back.
