Unreliable for Comcast
So you have some background I am an IT manager of an engineering firm and have been working in the IT industry for quite some time. Before I was in IT I actually worked for Comcast as a service technician for their high speed internet. My fiancé was renting a modem and I told her let's buy one to save a little money.
I bought one of these and it activated then would drop its connection after running for a few minutes. Every once in a while when I was a service tech a modem would get messed up when they sent the signal down to it. I knew the lines and signal strength were fine since we had the service for months previously and the only thing that changed was me switching the modem. I also have a Netgear router so I assume these two devices would have no problems routing with each other. So I took it back and swapped it out with another.
The second one worked for a day before it started dropping. Basically it would have an intermittent signal with the majority of the time being offline. If you rebooted it you would get about 10-15 minutes before it started dropping. At this point I'm sure my fiancé was questioning if it was really a good idea to get our own modem.
I looked at the approved modem list for Comcast and notices that although it was on the approved list it only had one star as compared to others that had 3. I ended up buying the Motorola SB 6121 (which had three stars). After activating I haven't had a problem since. I don't know what this issue is, but I can say that my experience with this modem was awful. If you decide to give it a go, good luck! Here is the Comcast approved list. http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net
