First of her books that I DNF (did not finish)
Mariana's books, Kulti and Wall of Winnipeg, are two of my favorite contemporary novels - I've reread them dozens of times. I'm a huge fan of her writing and have waited for each book in eager anticipation. For the past few years though, I've liked each new release less and less; the pacing feels slower, language is overly descriptive, and the characters are less likable and relatable. I don't mean to be harsh, but I could not read past the 6th chapter. The book feels like a long, boring internal monologue from Luna's point of view... not to mention the incessant descriptions of how muscular and huge Ripley is. Yes, for the 5th time, I know his biceps are the size of thighs and his forearms are the size of calves. I tried to soldier on, but I could not muster any kind of connection to the characters or excitement for where the story was headed.
