This book seems to be merely an introduction to the next two. There were sections at the beginning of the book where the story flow was interrupted with plugs for other authors’ books. This was jarring and pulled me out of the story, because it seemed disjointed and not relevant to the story. After the rough beginning, I got into it, but after finally hooking me, the pacing slowed and the book lost momentum. I was frustrated that after slogging through parts, I didn’t even get the payoff of a satisfying ending. There was no resolution to numerous threads, and the author added a major plot development. Apparently, you have to read two more books to find out what happened. Although, I liked and recommended some of this author’s previous books, I won’t be reading any more. Books are too expensive for authors to expect readers to invest time and money in three of them to get one story. I’ve yet to read any story worth $75 and very few stories worth the time and energy to wade through a thousand pages to find out how it ends.
