Don't Waste Your Time
This book is mostly for folks in the highest income brackets, those who still itemize, and those with a business. If you are primarily a W2 earner, don't waste your time. The book is massive, but much of the text contains information about the history of deductions/credits, not just the current rules. It even contains information on deductions/credits that haven't been available for years and even decades! Some seem rather dubious. How about this one: Donate $6,000 to a charity. Rent your house to the charity for $5,000 for 12 meetings. The charity ends up with $1,000 and you net $440 (if you are in a 24% tax bracket). No thanks! There is quite a bit of information about contributions to IRAs and 401ks, but it is not presented all that clearly. You can find better information online for free.
