Don't Waste Your Money - Hold EA Accountable
I didn't buy this game through Amazon, but I think Amazon reviews are a good place to vent about a terrible product because you can really get through to potential consumers. This is one of the most over-hyped, unspectacular games I've ever bought. Normally I wait for games to go on sale for at least half of their original price, but with how much I enjoyed the original Battlefront and Battlefront 2, I decided to get this one early. I made a terrible mistake. It seems that, in the rush to release a game before The Force Awakens hits theaters, EA released a half-completed product. As other reviewers have said, it's easy to tire of this game after around 10 hours of gameplay. I'm not sure what EA was going for with this game - if they had simply re-released Battlefront 2 for Xbox with improved graphics, I probably would have loved it. Instead, they decided to tarnish a brand that they spent a whole lot of money to acquire (Star Wars: Battlefront) by rushing the full game to market and trying to milk every cent out of customers with downloadable content (5 planned DLC packs, from what I've heard). Here are some telling comparisons between LucasArts Battlefront 2 (2005) and EA's Star Wars: Battlefront (2015): B2 has 33 total maps spanning 16 planets; SWB has 12 maps. B2 has space battles; SWB does not. B2 supports modding; SWB does not. B2 has a campaign mode; SWB does not. B2 has 52 playable classes, including 19 heroes; SWB has one, with six heroes. B2 had 37 controllable vehicles and 15 controllable turrets; SWB effectively has 5 controllable vehicles. B2 allows you to play as prequel or classic era characters; SWB limits you to classic era characters. (Credit to PS4 Daily's website for the graphic to help me articulate this games shortcomings). Ultimately, spending your money on this game is worse than burning $60. By buying this game, you're encouraging EA to release subpar, unfinished Star Wars games because they'll get their money whether they release a quality product or not. Don't make the same mistake I made - DO NOT buy this game. Edit: Corrected 2 heroes to 6 heroes and 8 maps to 12 maps - I carelessly threw in statistics from a side-by-side comparison elsewhere. But I'm standing by the rest of my review. Edit2: I suppose I haven't given this game enough credit - the graphics are beautiful, and (as far as I can tell) the game has very few bugs. My problem is more with the stunning lack of content compared to a game that's 10 years older. Using the same name as a fan favorite invites direct comparisons to that fan favorite, and compared to Battlefront 2, Star Wars Battlefront comes up shockingly short. If all you want to do is play online, Star Wars Battlefront is probably adequate. But if you enjoy single player campaigns, this game simply doesn't deliver what the name implies.
