All I did was wash it!
I am HEARTBROKEN about this pot.
$100 for one stockpot nowadays is a mid-range price, so, I expected basic quality, without bells and whistles.
I got it out of the box and washed it. That's as far as I got. That's when I noticed the "stainless steel" um... finish?... was coming off on the bottom, and, I saw dark brown rust. Well, they tell you not to scrub it with anything (which is absolutely INSANE), so I was trying to rub it off with a sponge. No dice. So, I turned the sponge over to the nylon scrubby side and rubbed. Oh, the rust came off alright - along with the FINISH. Returned it!
What in the world is going on lately, you cannot find quality stainless steel cookware ANYWHERE. And in this day and age when we're so savvy about metals leaching into our food, it would seem to me that the demand for this would be sky high. Anodized aluminum will NOT enter my home, it leaches and it is PROVEN to leach. Enameled pots can contain lead, with the exception of Le Creuset, which costs as much as my mortgage, and, they can EASILY chip. No nonstick pans for me either, even PTFE PFOA free. I still don't trust it.
I just need a big pot to boil water for noodles or make soups in, and literally, this pot is attempt #7 this year. Nothing beats my 20 year old copper bottom Revereware, but alas, they are at the end of their life expectancy. I laugh because I bought an entire set for $79 in 1995 and they have truly lasted 20 years. I tried buying the newer version, and literally after one use, the finish chipped on the bottom. ARE WE CRAZY BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO INGEST HEAVY METALS? Why can't these companies get a CLUE?
I am thinking cast iron might be the only healthful option anymore.
