I really wanted to like this book. My son 6 yr old loves picture books. However, he flipped through the book before I had a chance and came to me telling that there were scary parts in the book. The things that scared him was the little girl was up in a hot air balloon all by herself... o.k. not so bad. Then we continued on and there is this bird that soldiers are going after with a net and the soldier in the back is pointing a gun. Once they catch the bird they put it in a cage on some sort of flying machine... the soldier is still pointing the gun at the bird even though it is in the cage. They take the bird somewhere and it is now being guarded by men with spears. The little girl runs up and snatches the cage and frees the bird. Well the girl is in trouble now because the soldiers have captured her and put her in a big "bird cage" that is suspended in mid-air. Then they take her crayon and throw it off the flying ship into mid-air, leaving her hopelessly trapped in this cage. Yes, the bird then magically appears with the crayon and everything works out... Take what you want from this, but its not what I envisioned when I read all the other reviews of how great this book was for any age child. Mine's going back.
