We were looking for an inexpensive and quiet road bike trainer for my son who does triathlons. This trainer seemed to meet our requirements. The quality seemed good during the unboxing and setup, and once we found the right 'skewer' adapter for my son's Trek bike we were able to get everything set up. My son was VERY happy with the trainer for the first hour, but there was suddenly a loud grinding sound that suddenly appeared. The noise seemed to emanate from the large heatsink cover, and it sounded similar to metal on metal and varied in intensity depending on the cadence. After all of the time spent setting up the unit I was determined to make the trainer work rather than return it to Amazon. Using an allen wrench I removed the heatsink cover which contains an oil filled reservoir that is magnetically coupled to the drive side. Each side has 6 magnets, and the oiled filled resistance unit is sealed with a fiberglass(?) plate and an o-ring to keep the oil from leaking out. I lifted off the fiberglass cover and found that one of the magnets had come out of the round hole that it was supposed to rest in. The other magnets were in place. I reinstalled the magnet and reassembled the unit, however the same issue reoccured after only a few minutes of use. Although we would love to continue using this road trainer since it works well when there are no issues, we plan to return it to Amazon because as far as I can tell the manufacturer (Alpcour) provides no support for this product. We are not shopping for a different product, but this time will make sure that we can get it repaired in the event we have a problem next month or next year. I'm now reading the CycleOps Fluid2 reviews. It's more expensive, but parts and support appear to be available in the event there is an issue.
