AVOID
May, 2011 - Well until somebody, anybody, can provide replacement spools for this thing, it is just an oversized paperweight. Had ordered the overpriced 3-pack with the trimmer a month ago. Burned thru the one (and only one) spool that came with the trimmer. Have been trying ever since to find the Greenworks replacement spools. Even the manufacturer appears to be out of them. Clearly somebody screwed up at the OEM. Will write a much more glowing review once (or if) I can ever start using it again.
July, 2012 Update- Now used over 1 year and it is the absolute worst unit I have ever owned (gardening for over 20 years). My AMZ order for refill spools is still open(from last season), so I rolled my own, just to be able to use the trimmer. And you know what? It wasn't worth it. This thing eats line excessively due to the way it is designed to feed more string to the head. It advances not the usual way of a bump on the ground, but rather everytime you start it. Thus, if you have to do a lot of stopping and starting, you end up with lots of line hanging (which doesn't automatically cut off like it should), and then the excess wraps itself around the hub. Of course, the motor then jams, and you have to spend lots of time getting the thing untangled. Also the design of having 2 opposing lines per head, is also not worth it and just a gimmick. You end up wasting twice as much line and the cut is not that much improved. Not to mention because the double spool design has to have now more plastic per spool, thus it is heavier (read more energy required for the motor to turn), makes winding your own more "challenging", AND you have less usable line with each refill. Also, despite the "telescoping handle", if you are 6 feet tall or over, it is still too short for comfort.
I tried to go "green", but this unit is just too full of problems.
