Great vacuum, terrible warranty
Update 8/20/2018 I'm sorry to say that Shark's warranty is terrible and I've dropped my rating from 5 starts to 2. Today the brush roller decided it didn't want to turn anymore. I went to Shark's website, walked through the troubleshooting process and still couldn't get it to work, so I escalated to "contact support". I would have preferred chat or email, but I had to call in because that was the only option. After navigating their IVR phone system and then waiting on hold for 5 minutes or so, I was connected to an agent. After troubleshooting on the phone with her for a while, she decided the vacuum was broken and I would need to send in for a free replacement. The only catch-I have to pay for shipping, which is a flat $20. That is the warranty - even though it is only 4 months old, I have to pay $20 because it broke. That's NOT impressive at all. Here's the thing, though... I still love the vacuum. It's easy to use, effective, and as versatile as could be. I'll admit, I paid the $20, albeit rather grudgingly. I'm like the guy who still loves the girl, despite the fact that she had an affair with someone and now she's promising that this time it will be different. OK. Fine. I'll give her one more chance, but any more funny business and I'm filing for divorce! Side note to Shark-I tried to take your survey and was asked to rate various things from 0 to 10. I tried to say 10 on the first question, but your system wouldn't take it and I think it interpreted my answer as 1s and 0s for multiple questions instead. Sorry. Consider rating 0 to 9 instead... -------- UPDATE 6/18/18 -------- I'm still in love with this vacuum. It seems like every time I use it, I discover another little trick it can do--something comes apart or adjusts or does something that makes cleaning just that much easier and more effective. I've also realized how much better this is at getting in corners and edges than most other vacuums. I'm not talking about the hose, although that is very easy to whip out and use. No, I'm referring to the brush heads -- the way it is designed, I can get things stuck in corners much more effectively than my other vacuum ever did. Yes, I still have to get the hose out sometimes, but not as often. When the day comes that I need a new vacuum, you can bet that I'll be more than happy to buy another SharkNinja, assuming they are still making them this well (hey--I'm hoping I don't need another one for years...). I LOVE it! -------- I'll admit--I didn't go into this with super-high hopes. The vacuum LOOKS like it's going to be one of those small, under powered little devices that really gives it all it has, but in the end, you still have to break out the big vacuum to really do the job. I was wrong. It isn't especially loud (which is a good thing) and it is pretty small and light, but it sucked a ton of dirt up. This owes partly to the fact that it was able to maneuver into a few small spaces that my bigger vacuum just can't get (and so I suspect there was more dirt hiding in those areas), but it is still a testament to the overall effectiveness this little guy has. I got this because I needed something smaller to be able to use on the stairs and I liked the "lift away" feature--I thought that would help me in my endeavors. The lift away feature is pretty cool, but as it turns out, the width of the vacuum in its upright state is just right for 1 stair tread and the fact that it swivels makes it easy to use on the stairs and so I just did it that way since it gives me the added advantage of the rotating brush. It did a very good job and was fairly easy, although if I could change one thing it would be the ability to make the handle shorter since I was working in a confined space. Actually, there may be a way to do it--the vacuum kept surprising me with all its hidden bells and whistles. I don't normally feel a need to read the instruction manual for a vacuum, but this thing is able to do so many little tricks, I decided I should take the time and peruse it. This is the first vacuum that I've used that swivels. I'll be honest--it took a little getting used to. At first, I didn't care for it, but after some practice, not only did I decide it wasn't as difficult to control as I had originally thought, but I also realized that it enables me to get into some awkward spaces that would otherwise be very difficult. My "big vacuum" that I've been using up to this point has a head light on it, but I've never really thought of it as being super useful--more of a token feature than anything. The light on this SharkNinja is much brighter and is actually very good at helping me see little bits of things right in front of the vacuum that I couldn't see before, esp. in rooms without a lot of natural light. I think it is safe to say this is the only vacuum that I've used that had a useful headlight. I'm not going to get rid of my larger vacuum because it is faster to get large, open spaces with it, but this SharkNinja certainly COULD handle them, if I was willing to make about 2x as many passes. It is much more effective in smaller, cramped spaces and is hands down a better choice on the stairs. It is much smaller and easier to store in a closet. And, unlike other little vacuums I've tried in the past, it actually does a great job getting dirt up from the base of the carpet fibers. I'm sorry I ever doubted you, little SharkNinja... welcome to the family!
