Do not purchase this laptop.
I've never felt inspired to write a review before. If you're considering purchasing this laptop, PLEASE READ THIS.
I ordered this laptop a few days ago - dead on arrival. Wouldn't even turn on. So I initiated an exchange through Amazon - they promptly sent me another laptop.
Dead on arrival. Yep. That's two laptops in a row that's bricked. AND IT GETS BETTER!
Fed up at this point, I attempt to initiate a refund or at the very least try a 3rd replacement. Nope. Only eligible for Amazon gift card credit. No more exchanges allowed. $1600 of Amazon credit! So at this point, I'm pretty much stuck with this bricked laptop.
I contact Dell. To their credit, they pretty quickly sent an in-person technician to take a look at it. Dead motherboard. They replace it, it boots up, great, they leave.
Hours after they leave, it appears the battery is fried. It says, "Plugged in, not charging", with a blinking amber light underneath the trackpad. After much Googling, it appears to be a common problem with a slew of possible solutions (fried adapter? Fried battery? Another fried motherboard?)
So here I am, 2 laptops and several pieces later, still with a non-functioning laptop, patiently waiting for my e-mail exchanges to go through with Dell tech support. BUYER BEWARE. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE.
EDIT/UPDATE 02/28/18:
I’m still waiting for a second dell technician to come service this laptop. I got impatient at some point and went and purchased a genuine replacement battery and a torx screwdriver. Replaced the battery. Did not fix the issue. So it seems they replaced the motherboard with another slightly different broken motherboard.
And today I received a phone call confirming a visit from a second Dell technician. Guess what they’re bringing? A new battery. Which means The end result of this second Dell technician visit will be scheduling a third visit. Has anyone ever seen Idiocracy?
EDIT/UPDATE 03/03/2018:
Second Dell technician came. Couldn't figure out the issue. So the next step is I wait for a box to arrive in the mail, then I ship the laptop off to get it serviced. So a few days in transit, 3-5 business days to get worked on, then a few more days in transit. And I have little confidence that the machine I'll get back in the mail will even be 100% working at this point. To Dell's credit, they've gone to great lengths in an attempt to get this machine working. But I'm over it. This process has been incredibly long, drawn out, and stressful. Where is Dell's quality assurance department? Why haven't I just been issued a brand new working laptop (you know, the thing I paid for) instead of this constant failing dissection? I don't even want this laptop anymore. Any sort of magic associated with a purchase of a shiny new beautiful laptop is long, long, long gone.
EDIT/UPDATE 03/12/2018:
I've been notified by the Dell repair center that the 'piece' my laptop needs is on back-order. I've been assured it'll take 5 days to arrive. This was 7 days ago. DELL IF YOU'RE READING THIS. JUST SEND ME A NEW LAPTOP. A WORKING LAPTOP.
EDIT/UPDATE 03/16/2018:
The Dell Repair center called to tell me it was the motherboard. This will be the 4th motherboard in three weeks. Expected delivery date is March 21st. So that is a 15 day turn-around time.
So that will be one month attempting to get a properly working machine. One month, two laptops, three batteries, four motherboards. Two in-person Dell technicians and a two-week long stay at the Repair Center. For a BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX LAPTOP. As a life-long computer user who has used pretty much every brand out there, this is pretty unprecedented.
