KNOWN BY DELONGHI TO BE DEFECTIVE
DO NOT BUY THIS HEATER. I rarely feel so strongly, either pro or con, that I bother to write a review of my frequent purchases. This is an exception. I received my unit on 1/28/18 and, once I’d taken two minutes to figure out the simple operating instructions, was very happy with it….for about two months, until I got the dreaded “Ht” warning. There was nothing obstructing the unit; it’s a malfunction. I called DeLonghi customer service on 4/17/18. The agent was very helpful and, in fact, acknowledged that this is a known problem with the heater. He needed my purchase date and price. The next instructions were to send a photo of the power cord after I’d cut it off the heater. Easy enough. Now they will ship a new unit which I’ll receive in 10-14 days. Not so great, since this is my primary heat source. And no word about disposing of the malfunctioning unit, which could be an issue. However – and this is my biggest warning – the warranty will not restart with the new unit. That means that if I get a series of malfunctioning units, I am S.O.L at the end of the original warranty period.
Shame on DeLonghi for continuing to take people’s money for a heater they know doesn’t work!
Side note: I also have a DeLonghi espresso maker that I really like, but it has some glitches as well. I can work around them, but it makes me think that perhaps DeLonghi has systemic issues with their electronics. I will update my review after the second heater has been in use for a while.
MAY 10 UPDATE: I received the replacement unit yesterday, over 3 weeks from my initial complaint. My warranty was still ticking away during that time. DeLonghi had told me that the HCX9115E was not in stock, so I was offered one of two different units -- an oil-filled unit (which I declined) and an older style convection heater (which arrived yesterday). It is a joke. Must be a 1980s model. It has no thermostat, so now "when the room has reached the desired temperature, turn the thermostat knob slowly counterclockwise until you hear a click". REALLY?! That's @#$%ing handy!!! Also, to set the timer, I now get to use the dial with pins for 30 minute increments, pushed in or out to indicate on or off. Reminds me of the timer I have for my garden sprinkler (which has no power). It is extraordinarily low tech. Obviously there's a reason both units I was offered in exchange sell for significantly less than the HCX9115E. I've not yet had the pleasure of using this obsolete POS since spring has come to California but it won't change my mind once I do.
Bottom line: I am extremely disappointed in both the product and the service. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM DeLONGHI AGAIN AND I SUGGEST NO ONE ELSE DO EITHER. CRAPPY PRODUCTS AND A USELESS WARRANTY/REPLACEMENT POLICY. Save your money and frustration and get a better brand.
