Have two units of this. I think they have a great design and are very functional. I spend many days out of home at times and unplug all non-critical electronics. The modem and wifi router and other hubs need to stay on for the smart devices to work and these I have connected to a brand new echogear power strip. Last storm both my router and modem got fried while I was away although other devices on the same strip survived. Not sure whether the strip is to blame but definitely does not seem to have fully protected all the devices. Cost me $350 to replace internet connection set. The led indicator lights for protection and ground are still on so who knows. So feel like a have to do a more in depth research for a more robust system for critical and expensive components.
