Frighening
Forced birthers. They love clumps of cells, but would kick an actual, dying baby out of their way so they could get a good seat at church. Forcing 12 year olds to carry their rapist's progeny - even granting him visitation - no matter how it ruins her life (and her insides) is a beautiful thing to them. Better yet if the rapist is her father. Emboldened by propaganda like this, now some states are experimenting with legislation that would charge a woman with murder for not only having an abortion, but even for suffering a miscarriage she couldn’t absolutely positively prove was a miscarriage, with the possibility of a death sentence. There are already women serving time for "reproductive crimes." Here. In America. Where abortion is legal. Anyone remember the Romanian women and children who suffered so horrifically when abortion was criminalized there in the 60s? Starving kids chained to cribs, so deeply damaged physically & emotionally that they were beyond the healing power of love and medicine?* Adoptive families left with dangerous children unable to bond with another being? It’s called attachment disorder, and it’s worse than any “The Voice of John” story you could ever tell. Romanian women were subjected to mandatory pelvic exams. In. The. Workplace. Maternal mortality skyrocketed, doubling between 1965 & 1989. An estimated 10,000 more died due to back alley abortions. And none of this even produced the desired effect of an increased population. (Something this film also touts. Stupidly. On so many levels.) But Romania learned its lesson. (Too bad so many lives were ruined and lost in the process.) Abortion is once again legal there. Don't let's be dumber than Romania. And, seriously, why are some people so keen on forcing babies into homes with parents who don't want, can't afford, and shouldn't have them? Why do they delight in making children suffer because they believe every clump off cells must be carried to term - without giving a drip what happens once that clump is an actual human being? And, finally, if any of this was about true love and concern for children and not merely a thinly veiled attempt to control women, why is there never any mention of a man’s role in any of it? Evidently there is no problem with a man forcing a woman to have an abortion, since there has been no legislation floated to address that. Nor has there been any legislation requiring any type of mandatory child support to be collected by the government to reimburse women for the sperm provider’s half of all medical and child support bills from conception through the child’s 18th birthday. Wouldn’t you think that, out of all these people who claim to be such Christian baby lovers in this film, someone, somewhere would propose that actual men be required to ante up? Yeah. You would think.
*Don't believe any of that could happen here? It already is. After zero children seeking asylum died in detention for over 20 years, already there have been at least five deaths - that we know about - just over the past few months. (That doesn’t even take into account the actual thousands of children who this administration admits are “lost” because there was never any plan to reunite them with their parents.) Can you even imagine how horrific those conditions must be? The overcrowding. The abuse. Filth. Disease. Neglect. The lack of screened or trained staff capable of caring for large numbers of young children living in cages? Multiply that by what, 100? 100,000? We’re already being conditioned to accept such atrocities. Does anyone really seriously think it will stop with migrant children when there's a buck to be made on orphanages? Women in prison are already forced to give birth while shackled. What about when the “crime” is not wanting to have a baby rather than selling a bag of weed? Do you think those women – those “criminals” - will be treated any better? Is it really such a huge leap to believe that women in states with the most restrictive reproductive laws would be subject to mandatory pelvic exams in the workplace? I’m thinking that legislators who think the death penalty is an appropriate punishment for a miscarriage (and filmmakers who produce propaganda like this) wouldn’t really have a problem with that. At all.
