Save Your Money, Will Be Firewood Within Two Years
Like many others, I purchased this board after seeing the great review on America's Test Kitchen. However, like many of their product reviews, I think the issue is that they don't live with the products day to day for an extended period of time. This cutting board works well for awhile, but will eventually begin falling apart, becoming worthless (and dangerous). Purchased mine in May of 2012. I followed the care instructions religiously: wiping down with a damp sponge after use, oiling regularly with butcher block oil, and never leaving it wet. However, after 20 months, the board has developed a crack approximately 6" long starting at one end. This is now a great place for bacteria and microbes to hide and breed. In addition, the board now had a pronounced warp/bow to it. The result is that when cutting, the board tends to spin on the countertop. Not the safest thing when trying to chop vegetables with a sharp knife. I emailed Proteak twice, asking if they would consider covering this under the warranty (which they state as 12 months). I thought that with their website description of the board as "known for its durability and longevity" and "the last cutting board you'll ever need", they would stand behind their product and cover this. However, both emails went completely ignored. I'd recommend saving your money, and simply purchase a cheap cutting board, since either way they're going to end up in the trash (or the wood stove in my case).
