Cheap Chinese Junk
This was a hard review to write. After building a collection of non-functional dehumidifiers, I opted to go with this Honeywell because of their name, reputation for quality, purported durability and warranty. The only thing I can honestly report as above my expectations is their return policy and their warranty. I purchased the first one 2 weeks ago. It assembled and started up just fine. I employed the pump feature so I didn't have to empty the bucket every day. The dehumidifier ran until the bucket filled (the bucket should NOT have filled), then shut down showing error code "E 5", which isn't listed anywhere in the literature or on their website. Turns out it's 'pump failure'. Go figure. I fiddled with it for 2 days and could not get it to run beyond filling the bucket once or twice, then shutting down.
So, I contacted them through Amazon and to their immense credit, they shipped me a new one immediately and sent me authorization to send the old one back. I got the new one the day I sent the old one out. I went through the installation procedure and started the new one up. One day later, same failure, same error code. I am at a complete loss here, as I thought Honeywell built quality stuff.
This is not my first dehumidifier, I have a collection of 4 of them, all non functional, sitting in my basement as I write. I have a Freidrich and a Soleus , both started leaking refrigerant but both of them worked for about a year before taking their dumps. Freidrich told me 'tough' even though they have a 5 year warranty and Soleus is sending me a refund. I also have a Westinghouse that worked for about 12 years before the pan rusted out and a Frigidaire that ran for over 25 years before giving up the ghost.
I believe I have the reasonable right to expect an appliance like this - especially with the Honeywell name on it - to last a good 10 years. Am I expecting too much?
