Sjogren’s Patients - Beware
I have Sjögren’s Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that (among other things) causes decreased saliva in the mouth. As a result of this, people who suffer from this syndrome often develop mouth sores because of the lack of saliva (and its important antibacterial enzymes) and from friction.
I had one very small sore in my mouth and I thought I’d give this a try. I used the mouthwash as directed for 2 days and developed a very serious burn on the inside of my lips and on the tip of my tongue. My lips have been swollen for 5 days now, and several tastebuds on the tip of my tongue are severely burned. It is extremely painful.
I think that the hydrogen peroxide in this product is just too much for people who may experience decreased amounts of saliva. The HP content is in line with many other mouthwashes, and this product would probably work well for most people, but it caused an intense reaction in my dry mouth.
