I bought the Cordova shorts last year and liked it so much that I rated it a 5-star and my "favorite shorts." The only downside was that the color faded somewhat over time, but I still loved them. Though the styling is nearly identical, the Cordova shorts sold this year use a DIFFERENT manufacturer and the quality has gone down significantly. Both versions are "100% cotton," but the material on the new version is not as soft as before (I still have the old one to compare with) and it feels cheap. It fades even more quickly than before (ridiculously so), and within 3 weeks of light use, the button has fallen off due to poor stitching (as others have complained about). After noticing these quality differences, I went to the tags and saw that last year's shorts say "Made In Vietnam" whereas this year's model says "Made in China." The penny-pinchers at Unionbay corporate apparently won out and in the process the company forgot about maintaining high quality. They've also lost the loyalty of this customer. A final annoyance: the Cordova Satellite color has radically changed. Last year, it was an attractive blue-gray; this year, it has completely lost the blue and is a bland gray. How can you dramatically change the color of your shorts and not bother to change the name (to something other than Satellite)?? Is it just laziness, or more penny-pinching? UPDATE: As someone else pointed out to me, in the previous Vietnamese version, the "tabs" that hang from the bottom used to be able to cinch the leg opening snug. In the Chinese version, the tabs are purely decoration -- they are simply sewed on and have no function whatsoever. UPDATE (July '16): This review is now a year old, and someone commented that on his shorts the label now says Bangladesh. I haven't tried that version so I can't speak on it (other than hearing that the tabs are still non-functional).
