firmware update crashes this -- beware
Bought one through Amazon. Worked great at first, blu ray looked good, all streaming worked well. After a few months streaming kicked, out, then blu ray stopped playing discs. Normally, at this price point, I would have thrown it out, but I wanted to teach my kids a lesson so I boxed it up, went through the (painful) warrantly form process on line, and shipped it back to Sony. A refurbished model arrived quickly. Again, hooked it up, loaded all of the apps (which takes some time to activate), and it worked great. Second time I booted it up it said there was a firmware update that I should install, so I clicked yes. Guess what happened. Amazon and Netflix boot up, then crash, just like the first one I bought. Also, DVDs start up, and then quit, just like the first one I bought. (I must have installed the firmware update on that one too, and never connected the dots. So this issue is now identified. Whatever firmware update Sony is putting outthere is causing its blu rays to crash. IF YOUR PLAYER IS WORKING FINE, BEWARE INSTALLING FIRMWARE UPDATES.
