scratches and rust galore
my mom needed a new can opener, so instead of buying her one from a store, i decided to go online and buy her one with good reviews that could be trusted to last for years. it took less than 5 minutes for me to decide to buy this particular one because of the amazing (almost 500) reviews. as soon as i received it, i noticed the cheap-looking package, but i figured what's important is the product itself, not the cardboard. It felt heavy and sturdy in my hand with a good-feeling grip, so i was happy with the feel. But then i noticed a large amount of scratches. this was a brand-new item which i would never expect to have even ONE scratch. either way i gave it to her figuring it should be tested in its can-opening abilities. she was kind of disappointed that it didn't have a bottle opener like her old one (something i didn't even take into consideration when buying it, but it seemed important to her). She used it once, and said that it opened smoothly, so that was at least a relief.
But then it gets worse. After that one use, she rinsed, patted it down with a dishcloth, and set it to air dry on a rack (i let her know that it should not be soaked or left wet for too long) and two days later when i was about to use it, i realize it had two big rust spots where one side of the opener meets the other. She had only used it that one time, and took proper care of it, i was dumbfounded. i took a dry paper towel, and rubbed the spots, and although some of it came off easily, it seemed like the rust was ingrained in some of the deeper scratches. further inspection showed that there were big rust spots inside the crevices. how can something with so many amazing reviews be this utterly terrible?
I have posted some pictures above showing the scratches and some rust spots. With so many positive reviews it may seem that i am making this bad review up, or exaggerating, but please believe me when i tell you that i am not trying to make the product look bad out of spite. I am an honest consumer who is blown away at the poor quality of a product i had a lot of hope for. I can promise you that this can opener was not abused or misused by me or my mom, and that it truly did come with a lot of scratches. The guidelines for proper care were also followed, so the rust spots were not something i could have avoided to my knowledge. And it has honestly only been used ONCE. Now, i don't know if this is a counterfeit product or what the problem could be since so many others are extremely happy with their purchase. It seems to match the pictures shown with 'MADE IN USA', 'EZ-DUZ-IT' and 'TWIST, engraved in it, so there's no reason to believe this is not a legit product.
