I expected a lot more; I seriously regret purchasing this book. There are barely any valuable life lessons; this book is a complete joke. I just read through it - the first chapter was acceptable; the next 2 were huge flops. I can't even get myself to read the 4th chapter as the stories are not realistic at all, and some ideas were not ones I want my 3rd grader exposed to. Example: in the second story, a boy wants a gaming system because everybody else has it, but does not want to work for it or earn it. His family suggests he do chores to earn money, and the child is so upset he leaves the dinner table to sulk - great, another bratty kid. A sentence from the book: "He contemplated washing dishes for his mother. Ugh! No way." - Why should a child get paid to do chores? Chores should be done by every MEMBER of the family, and mom should not be the only one doing dishes, especially if she has a child over age 7 - but that's another story. Child/main character proceeds to steal his aunt's '100yr old' secret candy recipe (which she always carries around in her purse, not sure why); he sells the candy at school and it's a hit; he makes more than enough money for the gaming system, but "couldn't stop" and when he runs out of supplies, he tells his friends "men, we need more capital." You'll read about school children stealing money from siblings' piggy banks and parents' purses to purchase said candy, until the main character was "filthy stinking rich." Main character also recruits his younger brother to help out, and his brother ends up introducing nuts to the recipe; several kids at school develop urticaria (thankfully no anaphylactic reactions/shock/death). In the end, child apologizes and everyone readily accepts his simple apology including his aunt; he returns all the money, and closes his school-based candy selling business (how was he even able to run a business at school???) However, the main character's friends gave him credit for, as the author put it, "helping them rise to elementary school infamy for being a part of the scandal." After all this, the main character loses interest in video games and decides to wash the dishes at home without being told; something about "a world of good." The End. Extremely silly story that will insult any child's intelligence; nothing about this story is realistic. None of the stories are really intriguing, so my child probably won't want to read it anyway - maybe I'll donate it to the public library, so others can borrow/preview it and hopefully not have to purchase it. If anyone wants to flip through this book (it's very short), I recommend borrowing it from your local library if available; otherwise skip it entirely because it's seriously not worth it.
