Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

Very rarely have I been so annoyed with a product that I wrote a negative review. Of the many Amazon reviews I’ve written, offhand I can’t think of any that I gave low scores to because I’m almost always thrilled with products I get from Amazon. The Amazon branded basic products have always been great for me. These hangers have inspired a review. First, they get five stars for price and durability. They get negative stars, if that was an option, for the black, velvet lint that they are absolutely covered in. I ordered several hundred hangers, ecstatic that they were 60 cents cheaper per hanger than the name brand at the store that I had just purchased a box of. I read the reviews where I noticed some people had discussed a lint issue, but I had hoped this was an isolated issue. No, apparently this is a nearly universal issue. The attached picture is what my pants looked like after spending an hour working with these hangers- the bottom left leg of the pant leg (the part that was against the floor while I was getting covered in lint) is flipped over so you can see that my pants were actually pink before being totally covered in black link. I ordered half the amount I needed in one order, which arrived today, and unfortunately, the other half won’t get to my house until Friday. Had I known the volume of work that would be required and the massive mess it would make I would have just paid for the name brand version. The first box I opened I noticed a bit of lint in the bag holding the hangers, so since I have a lot of light colored, delicate clothing, I figured I would test it out first by running a white cloth over it. The cloth, after being brushed along the hanger, was covered in black lint. Had I just put a white shirt on the hanger, it would have been completely covered in dark lint and likely been ruined. Take into account the fact that my closet has rows, so every time I pulled a shirt off of a top row hanger, the entire bottom row would have been dusted with lint as well. So, since I was feeling cheap, I decided that I could fix the mess. I gathered a few white, older hand towels that had been washed enough so that they didn’t rub off any white fuzzies onto the black velvet and I basically scrubbed each hanger with a dry towel. If I ever finish cleaning the few hundred hangers I am stuck with, I will probably run a damp cloth over them to get any remaining residue. At this point I have finished rubbing off the majority of the lint residue from about 250 hangers. It takes about 10-15 minutes to do each box of 50, you get lint all over your floor, and anything that happens to be nearby. I had a pale, pink silk shirt that I had laid out to hang up and by the time I was done scrubbing my hangers, the shirt was covered in black lint too, despite the fact that it was 5 feet away from me and about 2 feet over my head from the floor where I was sitting. On a good note, I just shook the shirt and most of the lint fell off, so at least it isn’t overly sticky or static. I am covered from head to toe in black lint, my skin looks like I spent the day in a coal mine, and my clothes look like I rolled around in ashes. Fortunately, the lint doesn’t itch, so it could be far worse. On a positive note, the hangers are strong. Despite my vigorous rubbing, only one of them broke, so at least I know once they are actually clean they might be helpful to have. If someone would fix the finishing process of these, they would be perfect. For now though, they are an absolute giant mess that will destroy your clothing if you don’t spend quite a bit of time cleaning each individual hanger first.
