Very surprised to find that this expensive air purifier was defective out of the box--the air quality feature (a major selling point of the purifier) was non-functional. To it's credit, Shark's phone support was quick but all troubleshooting steps were unsuccessful in resolving the issue. Also concerning is the lack of any CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) rating for this unit (as of July 2021). This means there has been no independent testing to actually verify the unit's cubic feet air filtration--making it impossible to compare the product against other air purifiers or to verify the manufacturer's claim that this unit filters up to 1200 square feet. Update: so it turns out the air sensor of this unit is actually easily accessible by way of removing a cover on the back of the unit that is secured by a single screw. Before returning the unit to Amazon for a refund, I decided to take a quick look to make sure that the air sensor had not become disconnected. Sure enough, I found that the data cable from the a purifier was disconnected from the air quality sensor. When I tried to reconnect the cable, however, I found that the connector ports of the data cable and air sensor were completely different (i.e. physically incompatible--see picture). The unit arrived in perfect physical condition with no signs of damage/ no rattling parts audible, so I can only assume someone at the shark factory: (i) forgot to install some adapter part necessary to connect the unit with the air sensor, or (ii) installed a completely incompatible air sensor, and (iii) failed to do even the most rudimentary type of quality control before shipping the unit out. This seems to be a new to the market air purifier, so I would strongly recommend people avoid purchasing it until shark irons out their quality control and obtains independent CADR testing of the unit.
