★☆☆☆☆
A bad book with very few redeeming traits.
See, here's the thing: For a novel supposed to be about "The Next World War," there's no war. I'd hate to spoil it for people, but the entire book describes nothing more than a series of tit-for-tat actions that are as strategically moronic as they are morally repugnant. (In that the civilian to military casualty ratio is somewhere on the order of thousands to one.) There's absolutely zero discussion of interesting technologies or tactics. This book could have been written in the 1960s, and I'm not at all exaggerating. Worst of all, the book doesn't have an ending. There's some deus ex machina and some handwaving, and it limps to a bizarre conclusion that makes zero sense, even by the low standards of airport thrillers. ...And that's essentially what this is. It's a disaster-porn airport thriller. It's not a serious book.
