Weber finally concludes some storylines
Wow,
Its very hard to review this. Mostly because as always David Weber decided to have an extremely long book with many pointless asides and contradictory plot threads. and that makes reading this book a more than tedious slog through a series of contrived scenes where character motivations are ill-defined at best and often completely ignored. The characters in this book willingly and without question commit horrific acts with a pride that only a true psychopath would be able to manage.
But that has been his theme for the Solarian League throughout this part of the story. The supposedly "civilized" star nation seems to have few to no honorable people within its military or its political structure. But we did learn in a previous book that at least part of that was due to the machinations of the "Alignment".
Overall, this book doesn't really advance the plot. It does close up a few plot threads, but the ones that get closed are not tied to the "Alignment" and its clear Weber is leaving a ton open for future releases. In fact I'd argue that other than the last 2 chapters or so, the rest of this book is pretty much all "filler". And not all that interesting filler. It's a bland tasteless non-alcoholic beer when the rest of the books out there are at least a full-bodied beer.
Collect if you want to have all the books in the series, or if you want to see the end of the Solarian League plot threads. Otherwise... don't bother. Its just not worth it.
