Like other reviewers said, DeWalt makes it far too difficult to select the correct adapters for whatever your application is. I needed to hook up their DWS780 miter saw to a Ridgid shop vac. That's about as easy as it gets, right? Not so much. I called DeWalt three times. got different answers each time. And never got the right answer. Their Customer Service dept. told me that I would need a DWV9000 (at least that much they got right) and that I would also need a 9120 or a 9130, or 40, or 50, or 60. But none of their numbnuts told me that I would need the 9190. After reading other reviews on Amazon I was able to figure it out....eventually. They (DeWalt) couldn't even provide basic specs on the products, like ID and OD for each end of each adapter.
I am reluctant to provide any information that helps DeWalt sell more of these. But for anyone who needs adapters for the same application, be advised that the end of this connector (DWV9000) with the ball bearings on the inside connects to the dust port on your DWS780 (and a number of DeWalt's other tools). The threaded end is designed to screw on the hose on DeWalt's vacs. If you want to connect it to a shop vac like my Ridgid, the DWV9190 screws into the threads on the DWV9000 and the other end of the 9190 is a press-fit onto a nominal 2 1/2" hose. (Apparently the standard 2 1/2" shop vac hose is a nominal measurement.) The connector on my shop vac (and most other brands) measures 2 1/4" OD. The ID on the DWV9190 is approx. 2 1/4". Proper fit.
Next time I need a power tool, DeWalt will be way down my list. After all, if they can't provide very basic info (either on their website or thru on the phone with Customer Service) to help customers select the proper accessories, what kind of service do you think they will provide if their tools need repairs, in or out of warranty?!
