Do not purchase the Braun Series 9 Shaver products.
As a life long user of Braun shavers I'm conflicted on writing this review of not just the 92S shaver head but also the 90S head and the 9 series razor as well. I've enjoyed Braun shavers my entire adult life having made my first purchase in 1982 with the Micron Plus model. I've always upgraded to the newest premium model at every introduction and every Braun razor I've owned has delivered outstanding performance until I upgraded from the Series 7 to the Series 9, 9095 model in October 2015. I'm sorry to report the Series 9 model is Braun's first shaver product failure. My experience with this razor over the last 2 years has been dismal and it all lies in the poorly designed cutter foil. In all fairness the razor performs beautifully and delivers Braun's amazing close, comfortable shave when the cutter head is functioning. Keep in mind Braun advertises their shaver heads should last up to 18 months under normal usage and care. I got 18 months from all my Series 7 razor shaver heads. First I'll define 'normal use' and shaver head 'failure'. I shave once daily and the shaver is stored in the cleaning station with the cleaning cartridge changed every time the red indicator advises. Shaver head failure is when the 2 center cutters of the 90 Series shavers detach from the cutter head, see my attached picture, this is how all 4 of my shaver heads failed. My 9095 came with the 90S shaver head, it failed after 9 months of normal use. I purchased a second 90S and it failed after 5 months of normal use. I called Braun and advised them of my issues and while they didn't acknowledge any issues with the 9 Series they did send me a new 90S replacement head even though it is not covered under warranty. Thank you Braun. I also informed them that I still had the 2 failed heads assuming they may want to examine them, they did want them back and sent a mailer for return. During that call to Braun I also inquired about the new 92S shaver head which I discovered online however it was not yet available. Braun told me it was not a ‘fix’ for the 90S head, just an evolution of the razor head with a new Titanium cutter. I’ve never known Braun to issue a new shaver head on any of my previous razor models, particularly only a year after the Series 9 model introduction? So… the 90S shaver head Braun sent me failed 6 months after normal usage. By then the 92S shaver head was available on Amazon so instead of contacting Braun again about the third 90S failure I decided to just purchase the new 92S. I was convinced it was Braun’s secret fix to the failed 90S and I could get it quickly without waiting on Braun to send me another replacement. The 92S shaver head just failed after only 3 months of normal usage, it didn’t even outlast its predecessors. So I’m now at 2 years on the Series 9 and 4 shaver heads have failed, three 90S heads and one 92S head and at the cost of 2 replacement heads. This is not a case of the shaver heads prematurely wearing out, this is the shaver heads failing, actually coming apart. I did contact Braun again, they were very nice and apologetic for the issues and asked the usual questions; how do I clean my razor, etc. I dug a little deeper questioning my problems and they would not admit to any ‘known problems’ with the Series 9 cutter heads. They are sending me another 92S shaver head, thank you Braun. For the record, I am not the only customer experiencing this issue on the Series 9 razor, just consult the reviews of the Series 9 and it’s 2 available cutter heads on Braun’s site, Amazon and Moo Review. Many others are having the same cutter head failures. I have no expectation of the next 92S shaver head Braun sends me being the solution; I assume it, like the others before it will fail. When it does, the next contact with Braun will be interesting. I wonder if they will at least acknowledge there is a problem with the Series 9? It’s a very serious problem that I believe should warrant a product recall with a full refund or an offer of a replacement back to the Series 7 product. Braun has enjoyed a previously untarnished reputation with their excellent shavers and I’m surprised they have not stepped up and acknowledged the Series 9 shaver issue. I’m not sure if I stay with Braun or elect to go to another brand. While I strongly recommend the Series 7 razor and cannot recommend the Series 9.
